Duncan, OK | Birth Place at Fruitful Oaks | Baby C

I’m so excited to tell you about the first Birth Story that happened at a brand new birth center option for Moms-to-be, located right here in Duncan, OK. The Birthing Place is an environment that feels like home, with supportive staff but minimal intervention. Stephanie, the Midwife of Fruitful Oaks Midwifery, and Murphie, the student midwife, provide incredible personal care with expertise that makes The Birthing Place a phenomenal alternative if a woman is looking for her story to take place outside of a hospital.

It just so happens that the very first Birth Story at The Birthing Place at Fruitful Oaks Midwifery was a quick one!

This was Casie and Kaegan Clark’s 3rd little boy, and Casie’s body was ready to do what needed to be done. She labored at home for awhile before coming to The Birthing Place. At 5pm on Dec 7th, Casie said they would be there around 5:30pm and by 6:37pm Kaegan texted me that she was 8cm dilated. It was time for me to join the party! As I was pulling into the driveway of The Birthing Place, I got a text from Stephanie, the Midwife, that said “Get on over here!” Unbeknownst to her, I was about to walk in the door. Casie went from an 8 to completely dilated in no time at all. When I first arrived, she was laboring on her back, but then she felt like she needed to reposition herself on all fours. That was exactly what Baby needed to make his way out.

Caleb was born at 6:56pm. The first baby born at The Birthing Place at Fruitful Oaks!

Cord cutting was delayed, and Stephanie helped Casie do it for herself. Murphie, the student midwife, checked Caleb’s vitals while Casie and Kaegan relaxed in the bed in a room that felt so cozy and peaceful. Once they were settled, and Caleb was feeding successfully, we all stepped out of the room to let them have some alone time.

Next was Caleb’s newborn exam with all the essentials, like measuring his weight and his length - all done right at the foot of the bed where Casie and Kaegan could watch. Once it was offically determined that he was, in fact, as cute as we all thought he was, Stephanie added his little footprints to the hallway wall.

Kaegan dressed Caleb in the tiny little pjs and Steph and Murphie took care of Casie to make sure her pain was under control and she could safely walk by herself. By 9:30pm, The Clarks were taking their souvenir picture in front of the backdrop and loading up in their car to go back home. Stephanie says the idea is that Mom and Baby get back home as soon as possible so they can both take advantage of the super sleepy stage after birth when the adrenaline wears off.

Stephanie and Murphie went to Casie’s house the following evening to do the 24 hour check up, which both Mom and Baby passed.

Congratulations Clarks! And Congratulations Stephanie, Murphie, and The Birthing Place at Fruitful Oaks! This Birth Story was just the first of many stories to come!
