Duncan, OK Birth | Baby J

This new baby would be coming into the Dunlap Family as a Baby Sister, and we just couldn’t wait to see what she would look like!

A few years ago, I met Madison and Jacob. She was pregnant with her sweet Savi, and was wanting to do a Brand New Session at the hospital, to remember Savi when she was still super squishy, and then a Lifestyle Newborn Session at home when baby got a little bigger. After those two sessions I was hooked on this family!

When Madison sent me the text that she was expecting again, and this time she wanted to add a Birth Session to the mix, I was over the moon! The only thing better than being there for the first few days of a babe’s life, is being there from the very beginning.

Little Sister Dunlap had a September due date, but wouldn’t you know it, on that very last day in August, I got a text from Madison’s phone right after I dropped my youngest off at school.

“Madison is admitted. This is her mom and she asked me to tell you.”

Immediate excitement and adrenaline hit me right in the gut. It was time for a Birth Day! I went to Duncan Regional Hospital, Birth Center, to check on her and get a read for where she might be at in the labor process. Jacob was there in head-to-toe work attire. He was on his way to work and turned around and drove back that morning. She had her epidural in place and was handling the contractions well.

To top it off, Madison’s nurse was Jenny, but not just any Jenny. It was the same Jenny that Jake grew up with, the same one Jake’s Mom use to babysit on a regular basis. The smallest of worlds, right? But wait there’s more! The name of this Little Sister was going to be Jensen - Jenny for short. By the time I got there, Nurse Jenny had already left some love on Baby Jenny’s charts.

We talked for a minute, and I went to do a few errands. I wasn’t gone 30 minutes when I got another text that water had broken and she was dilated to an 8-9. It really wouldn't be much longer now. After Madison labored in a few different positions, Baby J had dropped and it was time to push.

(Did you notice Jacob’s work pen on his shirt? I love it! Those little details make this Baby J’s Birth Story!)

Pushing on just two sets of contractions, and we then all got to see Baby Jenny live and in person for the very first time. It was 12:07pm on August 31.

Jensen ate her first meal, and got weighed and measured. Momma had her first snack since labor began. Meanwhile, Big Sister was waking up from a nap, and would be on her way soon!

The most anticipated moment of having a new baby, after the actual birth, is when the siblings meet for the very first time. Would Savi be interested? Would she be nervous? Would she be shy? We were about to find out.

The first meeting went well! Big Sis mostly said, “awwww!” over and over, which was absolutely too precious. Nurse Jenny also took her to the hallway to push the bottom that played a lullaby - letting everyone know a brand new baby had come into the world!

Since we did a Brand New Session with Savi. Madison wanted the same with Jenny. I went up the next day to get Jenny in her first 24 hours of being out of the womb.

I can’t get enough of baby yawns, and tell me Savi doesn’t look so sweet sitting in that window?

The following week, I drove to the Dunlap home for a Lifestyle Newborn Session. Seeing the family mostly settled into to their new life with a new babe is the icing on the cake after shooting a Birth Story.

Life will never be the same!

And even though there is certainly an adjustment period - between feeling overwhelmed with leaving the life of just a family of three to celebrating being a new family of four - it always works out. The first 8 weeks can feel like a whirlwind, a beautiful whirlwind of course, but for sure one that can make you lose your balance. But rest assured that there will be a day when a Momma and a Daddy can look down at the newest member of their family and think, “Goodness, how did we ever do this life without you.”

Here’s to the many, many adventures of Savi and Jenny, and the Dunlap Family of Four.
